NIKE BETTER WORLD

  1. How does the navigation in each site relate to the story or concept being portrayed? The video in the opening page conveys the idea of motion which is the focus of Nike. Furthermore, there is easy access to the different pages and they are brought to attention with their placement at the top of the page. Each size is broken down under each category so that users can easily find what they’re looking for.
  2. What role does user play in the reveal of information/content? The content is immediately introduced to the user as an offer to learn more. The user must click on the video icon in order to watch the full video with sound instead of just the clip. In addition to this the user must mouse over each item in the menu to see the submenus.
  3. Are you able to tell where you are within the site? how you got there? How to go back? Where to go next? What visual indicators provide you with that information? Youre reminded of where you are in the website with a tab on the left side of the page and the original menu remains at the top of the page so it is easy to navigate back to the home or any other page. Once youre in a page such as “Men’s Products”  there is a submenu that displays each of the products they offer for men. It is obvious these are links because theyre programmed to appear a different color upon moving the cursor over them.
  4. What is the pacing of the site? How is this indicated to the user (e.g. color, texture, light/dark, movement etc.) There are many dark colors, sort of like a pregame feeling like youre in a tunnel before a football game or in a dark locker room. They consider people buying their products part of the preparation for the actual action of playing a sport. It’s easy to navigate the website but there is a lot of content on each page. Their goal was to probably create a fast paced environment. Texture is built by putting graphic elements like menus (blocks of text) over videos that are on autoplay or large dark pictures that flood the background

SHAUN INMAN

  1. How does the navigation in each site relate to the story or concept being portrayed? This is this artists personal website so it makes sense he puts a literal image of himself at the center of all the information he is presenting to the user and explains this is because he believes in talking in the third person. His concept is directly related to his background in developing with the pixelated icons. He is very self aware and everything is central to this idea. The links lead to his work/ other social media sites to reach him at.
  2. What role does user play in the reveal of information/content? The user can choose what they want to see/hear as there is a music player at the top of the page. It is the user’s responsibility to click on the page they want to display then navigate back to the homepage themselves to see Shaun’s other work as there is no consistent link from his pages back to the home page.
  3. Are you able to tell where you are within the site? how you got there? How to go back? Where to go next? What visual indicators provide you with that information? Technically there is only one page to this site. You can really only go to other links and you know which link you are in because of the icons that are displayed on the home page.
  4. What is the pacing of the site? How is this indicated to the user (e.g. color, texture, light/dark, movement etc.) This site is less in traditional style so it forces the user to look at it before interacting with it for a minute. Its pretty static with the exception of the little toggle motion the icons do when you hover over them. Its colors are neutral grey with the icons atop it so it really keeps it simple.
